It's in your homeowners insurance policy. Wind and Hail. In Texas they get hailstones the size of baseballs. This causes obvious damages to homes. Here in the Charleston area, we don't get a lot of hail. When we do, it's generally smaller. Believe it or not, even small hailstones can damage your roofing shingles. This type of damage is not likely to cause immediate leaks, but it is enough to compromise the integrity of the shingles. Compromised shingles simply won't last as long. Even minor hail damage can be enough for your insurance company to approve to replace your entire roof. If your roof is old, it's probably a good idea to get it inspected after a hail event.
